Earlier this month, Capcom ran a survey asking a series of questions about its insanely successful Nintendo Switch release, Monster Hunter Rise - which will also be making its way to the PC in January next year.

One of the questions that got the most publicity was about the possibility of cross-play, cross-saves, and cross-progression between the Nintendo Switch and PC versions of the game.

Bit of a shame but Switch save files will be compressed wayyyy more than the PC ones.

@nessisonett shouldn’t a pc be able to decompress a save file more easily than a switch.

Not a deal breaker for me and the Switch version runs perfectly fine.

At the same time, it very much so implies that Monster Hunter Rise on the PC will be a whole different beast.

Rise was definitely easier for me to play than some past installments, but I don't know...

They're probably thinking "why should we put cross saves when there's literally a portable system that can play our PC version!

My best guess as a programmer (albeit one who doesn't focus on games as my job) assume that either they are lying, or set up the save files differently (such as increased storage space and cross development).

But if it is cross developed maybe the other team expanded the save file for some reason (such as larger play areas or some such) or baring that they think they are mostly 2 separate groups and forcing 2 purchases will net them more cash.

If they ported it to Xbox, Microsoft will make it cross play with PC, Switch and PlayStation for free?

Happily staying on Switch with the file I've already put hundreds of hours into.

I like Rise and all but I wasn’t going to double dip for a PC version rather it had cross play or not.

I'm not starting a new save file after 450 hours in Rise, are you nuts?!!

I NEED Monster Hunter Rise to be hybrid

Imagine how many Switch owners now won't double dip because they don't want to redo hundreds of hrs of playtime from their save file, and don't want to be stuck on a TV either

@Williamfuchs420 Maybe they checked the survey results and saw the people who are willing to buy again even without cross save was much higher than the people who would buy again but only with said feature

let's scrap the cross save idea and just focus on selling our PC version"
