When Fossil confirmed that it wouldn't update its existing smartwatches to the all-new Wear OS, speculation was rife that this could possibly be due to hardware limitations.

A spokesperson for the chipset company has revealed to XDA Developers that the Snapdragon Wear 3100 and Snapdragon Wear 4100/4100+ processors are "capable" of running Wear OS 3.0 (internal name).

We have not confirmed eligibility or timeline on whether any Wear OS smartwatch will update to the new unified platform
