In addition to taking issue with the Jesus scene and the presence of two gay men as characters - described by the district as 'vulgar' - the board also aired concerns over a song titled 'My Unfortunate Erection.'

'When we found out it was canceled, everybody was just heartbroken,' said Riley Matchinga, a senior who was playing a lead role in the musical comedy told local affiliate Fox 8 of the school's decision.

Mandi Matchinga added that she was left stunned Monday when she learned the production was to be halted, with the mom claiming that the school - one of five in the district's jurisdiction - had already given the play a greenlight months ago.

Matchinga reiterated how changes to the dialogue and songs to be more family-friendly were made months ago, and that permission slips were set to be signed for a planned airing of the play to be viewed by a local middle school.

In all aspects of its operations, the district vigorously enforces its prohibition against discriminatory harassment based on race, color, national origin, sex (including sexual orientation and gender identity), disability, age, religion, ancestry, or genetic information.'
