'Terror crocodiles' as big as a city bus snacked on dinosaurs with their banana-sized teeth: study - MSN Money

History is rife with no end of tantalizing tidbits, and a new study that revisits fossil specimens from the enormous Crocodylian Deinosuchus, which literally means “terror crocodile,” has found that it could take down the largest dinosaurs out there.

This was between 75 and 82 million years ago, when the North American continent was split by a shallow sea extending from the Arctic Ocean south to the present-day Gulf of Mexico, the researchers said.

“Deinosuchus was a giant that must have terrorized dinosaurs that came to the water’s edge to drink,” said Adam Cossette, from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine at Arkansas State University, in a statement.

The snouts widened strangely at the front end around the nose “in a way not seen in any other crocodylian, living or extinct,” the researchers’ statement said, with two random-looking holes at the end.
