Vote on S.F. schools reopening agreement delayed, angering parents: ‘Students are suffering’ - San Francisco Chronicle

A vote confirming the health and safety protocols required to reopen San Francisco schools was delayed Tuesday after school board members said they needed to meet behind closed doors to address a legal issue.

A week ago, district and labor leaders enthusiastically announced the tentative agreement on reopening schools, which addresses frequency of testing and vaccines for staff, among other requirements.

The agreement was touted as a major step forward in getting public school students back in classrooms after months and multiple school board meetings lasting late into the night with reopening near the end of the agenda, angering many families.

The delayed vote frustrated parent Sandy Wong, who has two children in district high schools.

López did not address why the board could not vote on the labor agreement before or after the legal discussion behind closed doors.

The board is expected to now vote on the agreement on Feb.

“We have every expectation that this agreement will be ratified by the board, and district staff are preparing accordingly.”.
