ASX pummelled as European lockdowns rattle markets

Senex shares fell 3.2 per cent to 30.5¢, Oil Search lost 5.1 per cent to close at $2.60 and Santos shares ended the session 5 per cent lower at $4.76.

Corporate Travel Management shares closed 5.4 per cent lower at $15.15, Webjet dropped 4.5 per cent to $3.65 and Qantas shares gave up 1.8 per cent to close at $4.35.

ANZ shares lost 2.4 per cent after closing at $18.70, while Westpac shares declined 2 per cent to $17.95, and National Australia Bank retreated 1.5 per cent to end the session at $18.60.

Coles shares added 1.6 per cent to close at $17.96 with the strong trading update released on Wednesday adding to the momentum.

The iron ore miner's shares gained 0.9 per cent to close at $16.62.

The retailer's shares dropped 6.2 per cent to close at $47.38 despite a performance update for the September quarter released ahead of its annual general meeting on Thursday confirming the surge in sales for the period.
