YouTuber becomes 'accidentally bitcoin rich' thanks to $50 donation - 9Honey

A YouTuber has struck internet gold, after a small donation in 2013 has made her "accidentally bitcoin rich".

Spagnola received the initial donation, worth $50 of bitcoin, from an individual in 2013 for her "Free Paintings" project, in which the artist creates vibrant works for people without charge.

Explaining the bitcoin donor had asked for an image of the famous coin symbol, Spagnola quips, "I traded a painting of bitcoin for… bitcoin.".

The YouTuber created an even larger painting of a bitcoin as a thank you to the donor for his gift in 2013, and gave it to him personally when the pair met for coffee in Las Vegas?

With her newly-acquired cyber-currency wealth, the YouTube star decided to "pay it forward" and gave away $50 worth of bitcoin to 10 people who commented on her most recent YouTube video.

"The original point of my Free Paintings project is that I want art to be for everyone, not just the elite, so I started giving it away and then people started donating for it," Spagnola said.
