Monday, November 29th 2021, 11:29 am - The Weather Network is forecasting a come-and-go winter for much of the country, with periods of high-impact weather for the season ahead.

A tumultuous temperature pattern is expected across Canada during the upcoming winter season.

This will result in a come-and-go winter for much of the country, with periods of high impact winter weather, interrupted by periods of mild weather.

However, before we settle into our dominant pattern for the heart of the winter season, the focus of the more consistent winter weather is expected to shift into Ontario, Quebec, and even into the Maritimes for a few weeks during the second half of December, and into early January.

For the heart of the winter season, we expect that the focus of the frigid weather will shift to western Canada, with rather mild weather surging north into eastern Canada at times.

Meanwhile, a La Niña weather pattern in the Pacific Ocean will continue to support an active storm track across southern Canada, leading to above normal precipitation and snowfall for southern parts of B.C., Alberta, Ontario and Quebec.

A snowy winter is expected across southwestern parts of Saskatchewan, but otherwise, the rest of the region should see near normal snowfall, including Saskatoon, Regina, and Winnipeg.

A come-and-go winter is expected with periods of mild weather and periods of high impact winter weather.

The winter will also include extended periods of mild weather, including the potential for a prolonged thaw, especially across southern parts of the province.

Before we get to the heart of winter, though, parts of December should feature periods of more consistent winter weather, especially through the holidays.

A stormy winter will be broken up at times by extended periods of rather mild temperatures, with the potential for a prolonged thaw across southern areas, including Montreal and Gatineau.

Before we get to the heart of winter, though, parts of December should feature periods of more consistent winter weather, especially through the holidays.

A mild pattern is expected to dominate across the Maritimes this winter.

A mild pattern is expected to dominate across the province this winter.

Many storms will also bring a messy mix of snow, ice and rain to the region, which could result in below normal snowfall across southern parts of Newfoundland.
