Stranded beluga whale dies after being hoisted out of Seine River in France

Stranded beluga whale dies after being hoisted out of Seine River in France.

The beluga whale that was lifted out of France's River Seine has died, despite the mission to save it.

Rescuers had removed the whale from the river in preparation for its transfer to a saltwater basin in Normandy.

The lost beluga was first seen in the French river, far from its Arctic habitat, last week and had swum nearly halfway to Paris before local authorities confined it in a large lock system.

A beluga whale spotted in the River Seine has French emergency services and environmental experts pondering rescue options.
