PSA: It's The Final Countdown For 3DS And Wii U eShop Credit Card Payments (North America) - Nintendo Life

In late March 2023 we'll wave a tearful goodbye to the Wii U and 3DS eShop, stores with some wonderful exclusives and excellent ports.

From 23rd May you'll no longer be able to add funds on the Wii U or 3DS eShop using your credit card; this actually happened in Europe way back in September 2019.

If that is your main way to add funds and you're in North America, it'll be a weekend full of spending.

Regardless of region we all have until 29th August to redeem any eShop fund cards.

The best option by far, though, is to link your Nintendo Account to the old Nintendo Network ID; that way all funds added to your Switch account will also be available on the Wii U and 3DS eShop.

We also put together lists with the best exclusives on each store, which you should consider picking up / downloading before next year's closures.

So, if you're in North America and want to add funds on the 3DS / Wii U eShop using your credit card, now is the time?

They need to add a lot more sales to the 3ds eshop before it closes, the cost of physical cartridges has gone up so getting them digital before the deadline is a must for me.

To clarify, by linking a My Nintendo account with an NNID, you can still add money via credit card through the My Nintendo account and then spend that money in the 3DS and Wii U eShops.

Which would effectively be buying 3DS and Wii U eShop games with your credit card.

It's your best bet when the digital shops die if you don't wanna be screwed.

I buy points cards off of Best Buy with a Capital One rewards card.

And then Nintendo gives me Gold Coins, so it's a third win.

Nintendo sucks for this.

Like other people have said, hacking is definitely the best option this late into the 3DS lifecycle, its super easy and all you really need is a PC/laptop, and a big enough SD card?

Once completed, you can download virtually all games with just a QR code, and also have the option to emulate many past Nintendo and Sega consoles.

Now I have a Switch account in my country and there is no way to change the country in the Wii U account.

@belmont I merged my Japanese 3DS ID with an account on my UK Switch.

I gave nintendo plenty of $$$ and I always make sure to support the devs of games I like by picking up what they release on current gen consoles.

But once nintendo drops support for a console and closes up shop, hacking and sourcing roms are about the only way to experience old games.

If you try to pick up a DSi or 3DS secondhand, it’s almost guaranteed to have been factory reset, erasing any games that were once on the system?

In an ideal world, nintendo would give us a way to still experience these games legally, but sadly it does not.

No CFW, No hacking, just pure Original machines and games in cartridge

We like to keep our stuff the way it is

And I'll continue to encourage people to hack it like I did

There were tons of great games on there from years past

I love the Switch but I wish the shop was more like the eShop

Normally, I wouldn't recommend modding a console, especially a Nintendo one, but..
