TV actress Disha Vakani has been out of action for a long time. Vakani who hails from a Gujarati Jain family rose to fame after playing Daya Ben, a Gujarati housewife from the sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. Although Disha and her "Hey Maa Mataji" catchphrase is popular till date, the actress had her own share of struggles before making it big on TV. The actress has been part of several films, albeit in blink and miss roles. And some of her projects are so famous that you'll be shocked to know that Disha was a part of these projects. And it's been a long time since we have seen her on the TV screens, so let's revisit a few of her big projects that you are not aware of.
One of the most prominent roles of Disha Vakani was in Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodha Akbar. She played Madhavi, one of Jodha's handmaiden.
In another historical biopic, Mangal Pandey: The Rising, Disha had a small role of a courtesan. Vakani played Yasmin in the movie. And only if you watch the movie deeply engrossed you'll spot her.
Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja's Love Story 2050 which released in 2008 was a dud. And so was Disha's character in the movie. She played a maid in the movie. And this was the same year she bagged Taarak Mehta Ka Oolata Chashmah.
It seems, Disha was quite a hit in historical dramas. One of her projects was Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas where she played a character Sakhi. Again you'll have to watch the movie with utmost care to spot Disha.
Well, not many would even be aware of this movie. But since it had a starry cast including the likes of Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty and such, and was produced by Ekta Kapoor it did make some waves. Disha had a very small character of a widow. Again this was the project after which became Daya Ben.
