Covid-19 has claimed 5 lives in Onondaga County since Friday - syracuse.com

-- Five people have died from Covid-19 in Onondaga County since Friday as hospitalizations neared 100, County Executive Ryan McMahon said Monday.

In addition, the state reported that two nursing home residents in the county died of the disease, he said.

Forty people have been admitted to the hospital with Covid-19 in the last three days, bringing to 96 the number currently hospitalized with the disease, according to McMahon.

Of the 40 people newly admitted to the hospital, 27 were not vaccinated against the disease, he said.

Of the 96 people currently hospitalized with Covid-19, 23 are in intensive care units, he said.

A total of 739 people have died of Covid-19 in Onondaga County since the pandemic began in 2020.

The county executive said 312,724 residents of Onondaga County have received at least a first dose of vaccine, while 289,093 have completed their vaccine series.
