New Mexico sees 5 recent cases of West Nile virus - KOAT New Mexico

In 2020, the state saw eight total cases of West Nile and one related death.

In 2019 there were 40 reported cases in the state and four related deaths.

Recent rains throughout the state resulting in standing water – which health officials say make excellent breeding grounds for mosquitoes that spread the disease.
