A US model was left brain-damaged and unable to walk after suffering an allergic reaction to a pretzel in Las Vegas.

Chantel Giacalone’s family has been rewarded $US29.5 million ($A38 million) after the reaction to the peanut butter-infused pretzel left her requiring 24-hour care.

The woman, then 27, had been working in Las Vegas in 2013 when was given a frozen yoghurt with a tiny pretzel on it by her friend Tara Retes during a fashion trade show.
