The fractious relationship came to a head last fall when Trudeau said publicly that Canadian authorities have been "actively pursuing credible allegations of a potential link" between agents working for the Indian government and the murder of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar outside his Surrey, B.C.

In a statement responding to queries about making India part of her mandate probing foreign interference, the Privy Council Office has indicated Nijjar's killing is a matter of criminal investigation by the RCMP.
