New Covid-19 variant found in UK as Public Health England run urgent tests - Yorkshire Live

This comes as cases of the Delta variant are continuing to rise, with 33,716 new cases confirmed since last week which brings the total to 286,765 according to PHE data published today.

In total, 3,692 people have so far been admitted to hospital with the Delta variant, of whom 2,152 (58 per cent) were unvaccinated and 843 (23 per cent) were fully vaccinated.

From February to mid-July, among the under-50s who had received both vaccines just four patients died with the Delta variant out of 15,346 cases in this group (0.02 per cent).

There have been 34 deaths among the unvaccinated in the same age group, among 119,063 Delta cases (0.02 per cent).
