(Image: Getty) Paul O’Grady’s widower Andre Portasio's plans to redevelop the late TV star’s rural estate has ruffled the feathers of local conservationists.

Mr Portasio reportedly submitted plans to turn a security hut on the inherited country property in Kent into a mansion three times its size.

However, the plan was met with upset from environmental campaigners who argue that it “fails to conserve or enhance the special character and qualities” of the Kent Downs.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, she stated: "Demand for a retail outlet providing food, clothes or haberdashery in this location is limited...

She further suggested that the building would be best suited for "residential use", stating: "This appraisal concludes that the current use as a security guard's office is no longer required, particularly, with the recent passing of Paul O'Grady.

Andre said that he commemorated the first anniversary with a solo trip to New Zealand, expressing that he did not want to be "anywhere near my kitchen where I found him, and be reminded of what happened".
