The new design appears to be rolling out in the beta version of Messages, as a server-side test.

The existing stable version of Messages has a plain white title bar with a discrete search button on the right side, but now, the entire title bar functions as a search button.

The design change is appearing for some folks on Messages 6.2 beta, which started rolling out on the Play Store a few days ago.
