Health officials now believe that number is almost certain to exceed the 22,170 cases reported in 2013, the previous-worst outbreak, by the end of the year.

Singapore has seen more than 14,000 cases of dengue fever - caused by a virus spread by mosquitos - so far this year, and is on course to top the record 22,170 cases seen in 2013.

But a much larger second wave hit after the virus got into housing for migrant workers, with a peak of 1,426 cases on April 21 that is only just starting to ease.

Singapore has 44,479 cases of coronavirus.

Singapore has now reported a total of 44,479 cases of coronavirus, one of the worst outbreaks in southeast Asia .

Dengue has a mortality rate of around one per cent of cases, which is similar to coronavirus - which is thought to have a mortality rate of around 1.5 per cent.
