Bloomberg has shared an interesting report on the Famitsu sales figures, which shows that the launch of OLED has performed below the original and Lite models in Japan.
Due to demand for the OLED model many stores in Japan are reportedly implementing lottery systems to determine who can buy one.In addition, though, Bloomberg highlights 'an executive at an assembly partner' suggesting that Nintendo's split of manufacturing between Standard, Lite and OLED models pointed to limited confidence in demand for the newer model.
There's also weakening demand for the older original model, raising concerns that Nintendo could be left with too many unsold systems if momentum falls too far?
Of course we have the prime shopping season coming up globally, so Nintendo will be hoping to see all models in demand as people hunt for gifts.
All told, the Switch OLED is hugely popular right now in Japan - there just aren't enough of them to meet demand. If they underestimated demand, I wouldn’t call it a modest start.I would consider it a modest start when the demand wasn’t quite there and there is surplus.
Maybe nintendo couldn't meed demand."There's also weakening demand for the older original model, raising concerns that Nintendo could be left with too many unsold systems if momentum falls too far.".Possibly, Nintendo is keeping supply of the OLED Model artificially low to sell off remaining OG Switch stock.I agree with @RabidCanuck that if Nintendo can't meet demand, then that isn't a modest start. That's like saying that the PS5 had a modest start because Sony couldn't keep up with demand.
"Suggestions that Nintendo underestimated demand".This kind of thing happens with almost every launch of Nintendo consoles.Huge contrast compared to the UK where the Switch OLED model had a far bigger launch than the Switch LiteThe Switch Lite had a considerably bigger launch in Japan than it did in either the Americas or EuropeIt seems like with the Switch OLED model, the exact opposite will happen - the OLED model will have a considerably bigger launch in the Americas and Europe than in JapanIt’s Official, Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Is Coming To Nintendo SwitchNintendo's Switch Exclusive Metroid Dread Is Already Being Emulated On PCSwitch OLED Comes With A Screen Protector Installed, But Please Don't Remove It, Says NintendoPoll: What's A Fair Price For The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion PackGuide Metroid Dread: Where To Go After You Get The Phantom CloakGuide Metroid Dread: Where To Go After You Get The Spider MagnetNews Metroid Dread Staff Say They've Been Left Out Of The Game's Credits, MercurySteam RespondsGuide Metroid Dread: Where To Go After You Get The Charge Beam30 Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games To Look Forward To In 2021Where To Buy Nintendo Switch OLED ModelWhere To Buy Metroid Dread Special Edition And Samus & EM..
