The number of people being admitted to hospital due to coronavirus is now around half of what was seen in the first wave last year and is now having a significant impact on the local NHS, health officials warned.
"This means the number of people in hospital is approaching half of what we saw in wave one and is continuing to rise," Ms Sullivan said.
"The overall picture is that because the vaccination rates are much higher in the more elderly population, and infection rates are much higher in the younger population, we are seeing more younger people in hospital now, that is a definite trend."
